Fringe (After Scarves) is an homage to “copier artist” Pati Hill’s photocopied reproductions of scarves, which she pulled across the copier platen to portray movement.

For Fringe, a found length of off-white material was pulled across a large format Epson scanner platen. The resulting digital images were printed in monotone black on a RISO printer and bound into an accordion book that stretches to four feet, with five panels. A section of the scanned fringe was sewn onto each of the book’s spine edges, so that the work can be opened and read from either side.
